My Background And Approach To Creativity Life Coaching

What I bring to creativity life coaching.

I’m a writer, psychotherapist/counsellor and life coach.

There are three strands of experience and ability which I bring to my life coaching work with creative people.

  1. My own frustrations, successes and experience as a creative person trying to create good work and trying to make my way in the big city.
  2. Over fifteen years’ experience as a counsellor, working particularly with people experiencing anxiety, stress or depression.
  3. Eight years’ experience in life coaching. Originally I coached all kinds of clients, but gradually my focus has shifted naturally to coaching creative people.

This means I understand creative hopes and dreams and the difficulties in producing our best creative work. I also know how hard it can be to become – and stay – successful, whatever that means for you.

I understand the realities of doing creative work alongside making a living, particularly during a recession and the prevailing mood of making do, negativity, recession and staleness.

My influences as a life coach.

In my life coaching practice I have been profoundly influenced by many great teachers in personal growth and the field of creativity.

These include Eric MaiselRobert Fritz, the many mindfulness teachers and the profound and beautiful work within archetypal psychology done by James Hillman and Thomas Moore.

The lives of artists also continue to inspire and influence me, especially ones who have battled with internal demons such as Van Gogh (ask me for a full list!)

My life coaching background.

I’ve worked as a journalist for various outlets, including The Times. I’ve had poetry published (and not published) in magazines such as Poetry Review. I’ve written a memoir about living in Cornwall. I am working at the moment on a novel.

I have a counselling practice in East London which keeps the wolf from the door.

I enjoy London and I’ve lived here (this time) for eight years. But I’ve also lived in the country – in West Cornwall – and abroad. So I know there are many different ways of living a happy life and many different ideas of success.

I’m into meditation and shamanism.
