My Background And Approach To Creativity Coaching

What I bring to creativity coaching.

I’m a Psychotherapist/Counsellor accredited with BACP and an EMCC accredited Coach at Senior Practitioner level.

There are two sides to the experience and ability which I bring to my coaching work.

  1. My own frustrations, successes and experience as a creative person trying to create good work and trying to make my way in the big city.
  2. Over fifteen years’ experience as a therapist – as a counsellor working with people experiencing anxiety, stress or depression and as a coach working with creative people.

This means I deeply understand creative hopes and dreams and the difficulties in producing your best creative work. I know how hard it can be to become – and stay – successful, whatever ‘success’ means for you. I also understand the realities of doing creative work alongside making a living, particularly during a recession and the prevailing mood of making do, negativity and staleness.

My influences as a coach.

In my coaching practice I have been profoundly influenced by many great teachers in personal growth and the field of creativity.

These include Eric MaiselRobert Fritz, the many mindfulness teachers and the profound and beautiful work within archetypal psychology done by James Hillman and Thomas Moore.

The lives of artists also continue to inspire and influence me, especially ones who have battled with internal demons such as Van Gogh.

My background.

I’ve worked as a journalist for various outlets, including The Times. I’ve had poetry published (and not published) in magazines such as Poetry Review. I trained as an actor. I now work as a coach and counsellor.

I enjoy London and I’ve lived here (this time) for twenty years. But I’ve also lived in the country – in West Cornwall – and abroad. So I know there are many different ways of living a happy life and many different ideas of success.

I’m into meditation and shamanism.
